Growing up my activities kept me in shape and my weight down. When I got out of school I got out of sports, other priorities took over my life and the weight piled on. I tried all the fad diets, most with little or no success. Finally, I learned about the LAP-BAND® System. At first I had trouble believing that with the LAP-BAND® the weight would not come back, that it was not a diet but a tool, and that I was in total control of my weight loss. I've hit my goal and am down 170 lbs! The LAP-BAND® is still there to help me maintain my weight loss for the rest of my life. As a bonus, all the sports and family activities I had missed out on for over 20 years are back within my reach and there is nothing I can't experience with my children. I was tired of living life at 292 lbs. I had temporary success with other weight-loss methods, but none of them worked long-term. I have a little boy, and I did not want to embarrass him one day by being the ‘fat mom’. There were health risks involved with my weight, too, that scared me. I am a LAP-BAND® patient, but I am also a LAP-BAND® Surgeon. I had a LAP-BAND® placed in 2004, while I was in my surgery residency. It was the second best decision I've ever made after deciding to go to medical school, of course. That was 100 pounds ago. I can't tell you in this brief forum how having a Band has changed my life. It is amazing how easy it is to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I believe in the LAP-BAND® System so much that I wanted to make this the focus of my practice. To anyone out there considering the LAP-BAND®, I suggest that you research as much as you can, find a surgeon you trust, and seize the day. Hopefully you'll find yourself in a situation similar to mine - loving your new life and enjoying what it's like to not have to shop in the "Plus Size" section of the store.
